Introduction

All of New Zealand's state and state-integrated schools have a school board.  The school board is the Crown entity responsible for the governance and the control of the management of the school.  The board is the employer of all staff in the school, is responsible for setting the school's strategic direction in consultation with parents, staff, and students, and ensuring that its school provides a safe environment and quality education for all its students.  Boards are also responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance, and administration.  The board is proactive rather than reactive in its operations and decision making and does not involve itself in the administrative details of the day-to-day running of the school.  

Board membership

Board members are elected by the parent community, staff members and, in the case of schools with students above Year 9, the students. The principal is also a member of the board. The board can also co-opt additional members. 

Parent and staff board members are elected every three years and student board members are elected annually in September. Our current board was elected in 2022. For more information, click on the link below.

2025 Triennnial School Board Elections - Parent & Staff Member on the Board Election Results

Voting for our School Board candidates has now closed. We received a total of 13 nominations for 7 places on the board for Parent Elections, and two nominations each for the Staff and Student elections. As a result of the elections the following candidates were elected to the Kaipara College School Board.

The new board took office on Wednesday the 17th of September.
